The Crucible by Arthur Miller

"Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life!"
The play is set in Puritan town of Salem, in 1692. Though, a work of fiction, the novel depicts a real life, horrifying chapter in the history of America. It is a fictionalised account of the Salem witch trials.
Personally, I found this book very interesting because I barely had any knowledge about the witch trials. This play was deeply thought provoking for me, as along the lines I came across some horrifying actions that I couldn't stop thinking about. It deals with racism, classism and sexism, all at once. The story revolves around the accusing and the accused and deals with multiple themes like social status, hysteria, intolerance, goodness and reputation.
Miller's style of writing is hard to describe, sometimes quite difficult to understand the characters yet the character development of the protagonist is one of the things you would really appreciate after finishing the play.
As dark as this play can be, I would still recommend it. It can be a little confusing at times like almost all the plays but it's totally worth it.
